A funeral service is scheduled at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Church on the Move for Ruby Gonzales, 89, who passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2015 at her home. Pastor Richard Gonzales of Westover Hills Assembly of God Church in San Antonio, TX will be officiating with burial to follow at South Park Cemetery.
Ruby Gonzales was born August 26, 1925 to Emilio Jimenez and Rafaela Espinosa in Lorenzo, TX. Ruby was Protestant and a member of Templo La Hermosa, a graduate of ministry of song at Latin Bible Institute; she was a long life learner as she always continued her education. Ruby was an active member of her church, as a secretary, Sunday school teacher, and church choir member. She worked in ministry alongside her husband, the late, Rev. Richard Gonzales for over 50 years. Ruby was employed at Walker Air Force Base as cafeteria manager from 1957 to 1967 and also at Alco Discount Sore as a cashier from 1967 to 1979. A world traveler, Ruby enjoyed her adventures to Greece, Spain, Mexico, Italy, Puerto Rico, New York, North Carolina, Georgia, New Orleans, San Francisco, Portland and Hawaii.
Ruby is survived by her son, Rev. Richard Gonzales and wife, Birdie of San Antonio, TX; son, Robert Gonzales and wife, Migdalia of Austin, TX; foster son, Howard Peterson of Roswell, NM; daughter, Rachael Gonzales and husband, Daniel McCarthy of Pleasant Hill, CA; brothers, Martin Jimenez of Fremont, CA; Moses Jimenez of Cedar Crest, NM; sisters, Priscilla Cansino of Roswell, NM; Molly Mondy of Las Cruces, NM; Ruby was also blessed with grandchildren: Melissa Arellano, Ryan Santiago, and Jonathon Gonzales; also 6 great grandchildren.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Richard Gonzales; foster son, Tim Peterson; brothers, Santiago Jimenez and Frank Jimenez; sisters, Rev. Mary Prado and Rev. Hortencia Garcia; Margarita Madrid-Rodriguez and a granddaughter, Ingrid Santiago.
Mom's favorite scripture was Proverb 22.6 "Instruye al ni�o en su camino y cuando fuere viejo no se apartara de el."
Ruby was a loving and devoted wife, mother and a caregiver to many children over the years. You could always find Mom working with her flowers. She loved gardening and would often say: "To have a garden is to believe in the future". Her faith was unwavering; her devotion to the Lord was steadfast.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Meals on Wheels, J.O.Y. Centers Inc., 1822 N. Montana, Roswell, NM 88201.
The family would especially like to thank Patti Gutierrez, Mom's devoted home care provider who was of great support, care and friendship to our Mom.
Serving as pallbearers are John Mondy, Audie Mondy, Howard Peterson, Ray Storment, Brandon Storment, and Robert Velasquez.
Honorary pallbearers are Jonathon Gonzales and Ryan Santiago.
