Dan Hillard

Dan Floyd Hillard, 74, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017 at home with family. He leaves behind his wife, Sharon Hillard; and children Kelly Hillard of Pryor, Oklahoma; David Hillard and wife Dana and children Sophia and Luke of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Dan Floyd Hillard II and sons Trey and Zach of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Shari Johnson and husband James and children Madison and Summer of Roswell New Mexico, and Sharla Lindsey and husband Tannon and children Xandria, Bailey and Maci of Roswell New Mexico. He leaves behind 9 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

Dan was born on January 7, 1943 and raised in Oklahoma first in Tulsa and later around the grand lake area. He is the son of Dan R Hillard and Rhetta Hillard both have preceded him in death, as well as two of his sisters.

Dan was a hard worker all his life. He became affiliated with the AFL-CIO union of operating engineers. He rose up and became a union organizer and worked hard and believed in being a part of the union. While being an organizer for the union he also was a carpenter and owned his own company. After retiring from organizing for the union he became an X-Ray tech for the pipelines that he helped become unionized. After he retired from that he went and bought a bait and convenience store in Winganon, Oklahoma where he earned the nickname Catfish Dan for his skills in fishing. Along the way, he joined the Masons and rose to earning his 33rd degree and becoming a Master Mason at the Masonic lodge. He also joined and became a Shriner. Being a Mason and a Shriner was something that he was very proud of.

A Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Ballard's funeral home in Roswell New Mexico.
