Wesley B. Williams
Wesley Barrett Williams, 82, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. At the request of family there will be no public funeral services.
Wesley was born November 11, 1926 in the small town of Nunda in upstate New York to Wesley Franklin and Mae Barrett Williams.
He married Wilma Jean Handwerk in 1951. She survives him at the family home in Roswell. Also surviving him are their daughter, Sharon Cathey and husband Fred of Aurora, IL; 5 grandchildren Kyle in Denver, Kimberly in Steamboat Springs, CO and Krista, Kaitlin and Kacie in Aurora, IL and one great grandchild, Cooper. A son Jeffrey Warren Williams and wife also survive. One sister, Patricia Jean Burnett of Rochester, NY survives along with her three children Rober in Albuquerque, Susan in Denver and Peter in Rochester.
Wesley graduated from White Plains High School in White Plains, New York and started attending Colgate University in 1944. He interrupted his schooling to enlist in the US Navy for two years attaining the rate of Aviation Electrician Petty Officer 3c. Returning to Colgate, he was graduated in 1949 with a major in Geology.
With several starts in positions as Mineralogist, Scientific Instrument Representative and Production Control Specialist he finally settled into a position with General Electric GE as a Quality Assurance Engineer and stayed for 22 years as Engineer and QA Manager in Portable Appliances, Computers, Refurbishment of Computer Peripherals and Jet Engines. This meant moving with each new position to a different location within the United States. After GE he worked as a Quality Engineer on Cruise Missiles and as Quality Control Manger for Acushnet Corporation Titleist golf clubs and then finally for the last 15 years of his employment became a Quality Assurance Consultant in Nuclear Power Plant Construction which again meant extensive travel and relocation.
He was very active in the Baptist Church and the Presbyterian Church in his younger years holding numerous positions in the numerous churches he attended as a result of his many relocations. He was a member of the Masonic Lodges Hondo 74 and Valley Daylight 79 in Roswell.
