Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Ballard Funeral Home Chapel for Vreda Goodnight Baker, 87, who passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, March 1, 2015 in Las Cruces, NM. Tom Jones will officiate with burial to follow at South Park Cemetery.
Vreda was born October 5, 1927 in Windom, TX. To James Raymond Goodnight and Mary Elizabeth Coble Goodnight who preceded her in death. She married Billy Ray Baker who preceded her in death on December 24, 2003. Vreda is also preceded in death by siblings S.T. Goodnight, Ewell Goodnight, Jewel Williams, Dorothy Bylery and Glen Ray Goodnight and her granddaughter Lisa Oldrup.
Those left to cherish her memory are her sons Raymond D. Baker and wife Cathryn L. of El Paso, TX, David L. Baker and wife Janet K. of Las Cruces, NM and Billy D. Baker and Donna of Grand Junction, CO; daughter Patricia K. Lynch and William P. of Las Cruces, NM; sisters Louise Wilson and husband Choice and Anita Fern Peoples and husband Ernest; grandchildren Erik Oldrup, Mary Baker Flores, Joshua Baker, Corryn Lara, Megan Lee, Steven Baker, Thomas Baker, Suzanne Parker and Skylar Lynch, Alek Baker and eleven great grandchildren.
Vreda had lived in Las Cruces, NM for the past ten years coming from Roswell, NM. Vreda was the Captain of Dodd City High School girls' basketball team. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, traveling and cooking for her children.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are her sons and grandsons.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 926, Roswell, NM 88202.
