Virginia Waggoner Harris
Services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Ballard Chapel for Virginia Harris, 96, of Roswell, who passed away Saturday, January 12, 2012 in Roswell. David Wilcox will be officiating with burial to follow at South Park Cemetery.
Virginia was born August 19, 1916, in Winfield, Kansas, to John and Grace Waggoner. On March 19, 1959, she married Raymond Harris, who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Loren Waggoner, and a granddaughter, Cherisa Gammill.
Survivors include one son, Marc Harris of Albuquerque, three daughters, Raenette Rowland, Cheryl OConnor of Mansfield, Texas, and Patricia Harris of Bulverde, Texas. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Michael OConnor, Jennifer Younge, Carrie Ezell, and Garrett Harris, five great grandchildren, a niece and a nephew.
During World War II, Virginia worked assembling B17s at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, California. She lived in Datil, New Mexico, before moving to Roswell where she worked at Roswell Wool and Mohair until 1959. She was an active member in many organizations in Roswell, including Assistance League, Womens Club, Garden Club, and Republican Womens Club.
