Verna Sowell
Reverend A.J. Flinton will officiate at the 1:00 p.m. graveside service, Thursday, October 12, 2006, at South Park Cemetery for Verna Viola Sowell. She was 84 years old when she went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, October 10, 2006.

Verna was born February 1, 1922 in Marlow, Oklahoma. Her parents, John Talton and Nancy Ellen Ferguson, preceded her in death as did four brothers: Jessie, Fred, Clyde, and Melvin, and five sisters: Bonnie McLain, Oma Lewis, Ann Chavers, Lena Easter, and Hazel Hudson.

She is survived by her sister, Berniece Zirschky, and two daughters, Sonja Payton, Aleen Jones and her husband Don, all of Roswell. She is also survived by four grandchildren and their spouses, who she considered as her grandchildren and by nine great-grandchildren: Chris and Missy Jones, Lacy, K.C., Kyler of Carlsbad and Keith Jones of Roswell; Teresa and Perry McCreary, Keagan, Preston, and Megan of Roswell: Rhonda and Hollis Boardman, Emily and Lane of Roswell; Donna and Kevin Weekley of Roswell. Several nieces and nephews also survive her. Those living in Roswell are Yvonne and Jerry Lonowski, Chenoa, Jeremy and Sydney; Nancy and Keith Smith, Amy Anderson, and Kristina Sanders.

Verna was a member of New Covenant Church of God. Reading the Bible and singing in church were among her greatest joys. She also enjoyed caring for others and spending time with her friends and family. She was loved, and will be greatly missed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory.
