A funeral service is scheduled at 10:00 AM, on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Ballard Funeral Home for Tony V. Hernandez, 82, who passed away Thursday, December 24, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Eugene De Los Santos will preside over the service. The burial will follow at South Park Cemetery with the Roswell Veterans Honor Guard conducting graveside service.
Tony was born in Brownwood Texas on June 9, 1933 to Panfilo and Jesusita Hernandez. He married the love of his life, Josephine "Nina" Duran on June 16, 1956 who survives him at the family home in Las Cruces, NM.
Tony was very proud to have served his country during the Korean conflict. He enjoyed wearing his Korean Veteran hat everywhere he went. In his lifetime Tony worked at Glover's Meat Packing Company, Glenn's Furniture, and State Chemical. He retired from Creative Pultrusions in 1989 and became a full time Grandpa. He enjoyed picking his grandchildren up from school and spending time with them.
Tony was preceded in death by: his parents; a son Edward Hernandez; a son-in-law Jim Barton, a sister Margaret Torrez and husband Amable, Brothers Lupe Hernandez and wife Connie; Pete Hernandez and wife Ruth; John Hernandez and sister-in-law Gloria Hernandez.
Tony is survived by his children Sally Mendez and husband Lupe; Tony Hernandez and wife Lilly; Sandra Ogas and husband Al; and Barbara Barton. He is also survived by Brothers Panfilo Hernandez Jr. and wife Mary, Steve Hernandez and wife Delia; Andrew Hernandez and sister-in-law Blanca Hernandez.
Tony is survived by his thirteen grandchildren: Daniel Trujillo, Kristen Torres, Sally Aviles, Anthony Hernandez, Joseph Hernandez, Andrew Hernandez, Michelle Ogas, Leslie Ogas, Michael Ogas, Eric Carter, Christopher Carter, Nikki Hernandez, and Amanda Velazquez. He is also survived by twelve great grandchildren: Michael Torres, Adam Torres, Ethan Torres, Angela Johnson, Mia Montano, RJ Montano, Xavier Hernandez, and Xander Hernandez.
Serving as pallbearers are Lupe Mendez, Michael Ogas, Anthony Hernandez, Curtis Torres, Ernesto Velazquez, and Jerry Hernandez.
