Tommie Bowen Owen

Tommie Bowen Owen saw Jesus on January 27, 2020 at her home in Dumas, TX. Tommie was born on May 10, 1934 in Old Glory, TX to Jacob Thomas Greer and Ray Olivia (Green) Greer. On September 26, 1952 she married Don R. Bowen. They decided to elope and the only person that knew about it was Don's best friend, Bob Owen. Don passed away on October 4,1979. She was pre-deceased by her parents, her brothers Marvin Greer and Bobby Wayne Greer and sister Maudie Ellen Moore. On September 4, 2004 Tommie married Bob Owen and moved to Dumas, TX.

Tommie was a teacher in the Roswell Independent School district for many years. She started as a librarian at Roswell High School, but soon transferred over to Goddard High School to teach English. She found her calling in teaching Junior English. She was a rare breed in her teaching methods, which sometimes included a bullwhip and other teaching tools. She reminded students that they may have thought that they were a lump of coal when they came into her class, but they would soon realize that they were a diamond in the rough...she loved her students and loved teaching. She was a member of FBC Dumas, former member of Calvary Baptist Church of Roswell, and a Teacher at ENMU-R.

Those surviving Tommie are her husband Bob Owen of Dumas, TX; children Karen Padgett (Ben) of Belton, TX, Kent Bowen (Tycie) of Amarillo, TX, Kraig Bowen (Dawn) of Henry, NE and Luri Owen of Albuquerque, NM. Her grandchildren include Whitney Williams (Jay) Pflugerville, TX, Paige Gulley (Pat) Temple, TX, Ashby Dawson (Dale) Amarillo, TX, Cameron McChesney (Michael) Bixby, OK, Micah Thomas (Ethan) Waxahachie, TX, Trevin Bowen (Katrina) Amarillo, TX, Weston Bowen, Amarillo, TX, Michelle Bowen, Henry, NE, Ethan Bowen (Jenna) Mount Holly, NJ, Preston Padgett (Megan) Ft. Worth, TX, Whitney Padgett (Rachel) Edmond, OK and Michael Padgett (Megan Jean) Temple, TX and 17 great­grandchildren and one on the way. At some point in their lives she shared with everyone of her grandchildren that they were her favorite.

The most important thing that she would want to leave as her legacy to all that her life touched was her unending faith in Jesus Christ. She unabashedly shared her faith in Jesus always and joyfully.

Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Graveside service will be held 10:00 am, Friday, January 31, 2020 at South Park Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm, Monday, February 3, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Dumas, TX.
