Memorial services for Sue Saunders Graham will be conducted at 11: 00 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, at the First United Methodist Church of Roswell , with Rev. Archie Echols officiating. A private family burial will occur prior to the church service.
Mrs. Graham is survived by her sons, Robert L. Chip Graham, Jr. and Brook Harwood Graham, both of Denver; and her daughter, Jimi Saunders Gadzia of Roswell; grandchildren, Cori Gadzia of Ft. Collins, Graham Gadzia of Albuquerque, and Avery and Raven Graham of Denver; and sister Sally Saunders Toles of Roswell. Predeceasing her are her parents Col. and Mrs. H.P. Saunders, Jr.; sister, Elyse Saunders Patterson; son, Curtis Stanley Graham; and former husband, Robert L.Graham, Sr.
Born in Roswell, Mrs Graham attended Roswell Public Schools, junior college at Miss Hockaday's School for Girls in Dallas and the University of Arizona, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. She was also awarded and honorary junior college diploma in 1946 by New Mexico Military Institute three decades before coeducation to honor her father who was retiring after serving as Commandant of Cadets for 30 years.
Mrs. Graham was a devoted mother, independent business woman, voracious reader, accomplished equestrian, and talented lyricist and creative writer. As her mother before her, Mrs.Graham was often called upon by friends and community organizations to help create entertaining programs which invariably left audiences laughing and wanting more.
For those wishing to make a memorial donation, the family suggests the Roswell Public Library Foundation, the Saunders Scholarship Fund co the New Mexico Military Institute Foundation., or the charity of their choice.
