Sophia Bartlett Ayala

A Rosary will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2012 from 6:00pm 9:00pm at Annunciation Catholic Church in Arcadia, California. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2012 at 10:00am also at Annunciation Catholic Church. Fr. Eugene will perform services accompanied by guitarist Juan Carlos.

Sophia B. Ayala passed away on October 23, 2012 with loved ones by her side.

Sophia was born to Bony and Luz Bartlett in White Oaks, NM on May 5, 1916. She is survived by her daughter, Rita Valdez George, her two sons, Dan Donna and Paul David Maria, and her brother, Joe Duran Dolores. Sophias adored fourteen grandchildren include: Louis Mary, Richard, George Renee Romero, Brian Michelle, Steve Murphy, Randy, Daniel Nancy, David Ayala, Christy Rick Powell, Karen David Trogan, Sophia Eric, Marcos, Daniel Carlos and Vivian Ayala. Sophia also had twentyone great grandchildren and two greatgreat grandchildren.

Sophias early years in White Oaks, NM were happy years. Her parents, brother Bony and beloved sister Isabel and she traveled to Arizona before settling in Roswell, NM.

Sophia met George L. Ayala in 1934 and married October 9, 1936. They resided in Roswell and raised four children.

In May of 1970, Sophia and George moved to California. Being avid sports fans, they enjoyed many activities, especially college basketball coached by their son, Dan. They attended many games and got involved with the teams as well. They made frequent visits to New Mexico, Nevada and Colorado.

Sophia will be remembered as a devoted wife and loving mother. She was a true friend and confidant to all who had the good fortune to know her.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixtythree years, George L. Ayala, her beloved daughter Maria Elena and Bernardo Hostettler, her parents, her grandmother Josephine C. Bartlett, her brother Bony Bartlett and her sister Isabel B. Duran, favorite cousins, Minnie B. Anaya, Bill Bartlett and Savina Torres and many more who were all close and dear to her heart.
