Shirley Joene Bean, 73, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009, in Artesia General Hospital due to complications arising from lung cancer. Her ashes will be buried at a later date at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, Texas, beside her husband, Marshall, and her son, James Allen Mason.

Shirley was born April 15, 1936, in Minco, Oklahoma, to Allen Bee Taylor and Opal Rae Brown. She married James Adrian Mason in 1950 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and during their marriage had three children born to them. They were
orced and she later married Marshall Lee Bean in 1963. They resided in Odessa, where she was a homemaker until she became the owner and manager of Daves Trading Post in 1979. Marshall retired in 1991, and they moved to Brownwood, Texas, where she was employed by Eckerd Drug. After Marshalls death in 1998, she settled in Artesia, New Mexico, where she has resided for the past eight years.

Shirley was very loving and enjoyed sharing that love with her family and friends. She was a past Senior Regent of the Odessa Moose Lodge and a member of the Moose Lodge in Artesia. She loved playing slots at casinos and card games, working outside in her yard, and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bee Taylor and Opal Barnett of Oklahoma; brothers, Udell, Bill, and Dub Taylor of Texas; husband, Marshall Bean of Texas; son, James Allen Mason of Texas, and soul mate, Ray Bratcher of Artesia, New Mexico.

She is survived by her sister, Fern Mason of Tuttle, Oklahoma; brother, Jimmy Taylor and wife, Geneva, of Fritch, Texas; brother, Johnny B. Taylor and wife, Mariel, of Empire-Duncan, Oklahoma; daughter, Judy Mason Taylor and husband, Keith, of Lewisville, Texas; son, Ronnie Mason and wife, Vickie, of Jones, Oklahoma; son, Bullet Bean and wife, Meme, of Artesia, New Mexico; stepsons, Bobby and Kenny Bean of Seagraves, Texas; grandchild, Jarrod Taylor and wife, Michelle, of Lewisville, Texas; grandchild, Angela Taylor Malik and husband, Tyler, of Lewisville, Texas; grandchild, Bonnie Mason Reckinger and husband, Steve, of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; grandchild, Ronnie Mason II and wife, Lacey, of Jones, Oklahoma; great grandchildren, Koda and Taylor Malik; Sophie Reckinger; Logan, Haylee and Landon Mason; and J. T. Bean; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Bobby Branch and his family: Tate and Kandi, Houston, Kassidy, and Marleigh; Bobby Jr. and Jill; and Kerry Boggs for accepting our mother as part of their family in Artesia and adding so much joy to her life. We would also like to thank everyone for the love, support, and generosity theyve shown to our mother and to us during her illness. We would especially like to thank VistaCare for guiding us through the final journey with so much love and compassion.
