Sally Hartman

Sally G. Hartman of Roswell, NM passed away on May 27, 2017 at the age of 83 surrounded by her loving family at Heartfelt Manor after a lengthy illness.
Sally was born June 22, 1933 in Davenport, Iowa to Emil and Grace Behnke. She moved to Roswell with her parents in 1950. She married Jim Hartman on May 8, 1952 in Roswell. They recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. Jim remained dedicated to Sally throughout their life together.
She served as the Treasurer and Chief Deputy Treasurer of Chaves County for 21 years. Prior to that she managed Town Plaza Apartments.
Sally was active in Chaves County Republican Women and she was also active at St Peter's Catholic Church. She enjoyed going to the Inn of the Mountain Gods and other casinos. She also liked to camp and spend time with Jim in the mountains. She enjoyed traveling and going for early morning walks.
Sally is survived by her husband Jim of the family home, her son Dave Hartman (Adele) of Roswell, NM and daughters Diana Meier (Tom) of Roswell, NM and Donna Ellis (Bruce) of Alto, NM. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Karl Meier (Alia) of San Diego, CA and Emily Meier Godwin (Alan) of San Diego, CA, Justin Ellis (Jessica) of Roswell, NM, Matthew Ellis (Kelsey) of Denver, CO and Michelle Hartman Pruitt (Adam) of Roswell, NM. Her brothers Jack Behnke (Sue) of Houston, TX and Joe Behnke (Elizabeth) of Las Cruces, NM also survive her as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Grace Behnke, and her sisters Mary Devilbis and Ann Hendricks.
Special thanks to Ginny, Sheila and all the loving staff at Heartfelt Manor for their dedicated care in the final weeks of Sally's life.
A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at Ballard Funeral Home Chapel.
A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, June 1, 2017 at St Peters Catholic Church. Father Josh Duplissey of Assumption Catholic Church will officiate, assisted by Deacon Howard Herring of St. Peters Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Columbarium at St Peters Catholic Church.
Casual attire is encouraged.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the Poor Clare Monastery in Roswell, NM or to a favorite charity is requested.
