Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am, Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, for Royce Winerford Hurford, 83, who passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 with loving family beside him. Jerry Roper of New Castle, Oklahoma will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery with Roswell Veterans Honor Guard conducting military graveside services. A reception will follow at the Roswell Elks Club at 1:30 pm.
Royce was born December 7, 1929 to Arthur D. and Althea R. Hurford in Plainview, Texas. He married the love of his life of 61 years Barbara J. Roper on August 1, 1951 they had three wonderful children, Lynette Dockal, Yogi Hurford and Cindy Mealand all of Roswell.
He is survived by his wife Barbara J. Hurford, his three children Lynette Dockal and husband Jerry, Yogi Hurford and Jeanette Main, Cindy Mealand and seven grandchildren Cristi Hicks and husband Walter, Cheyenne Carrasco and husband Ahmed, Jennifer Tavzel and husband Rob, Chase Hurford and Tina Mares, Cory Mealand and Tasha Perez, Cathi Dockal and Keith Seefeld, Carrie Dockal and Quinn Wolfe and 10 great grandchildren Derrick Hicks, Marcus AryHicks, John Michael AryHicks, Rylan Hicks, Caleb Carrasco, Jaison Hicks, Katelynne Tavzel, Jaedynne Carrasco, Tristyn Tavzel, Ryker Seefeld and one on the way Mickey Lea, sisters Vella Pearl Hoff, Nova Earlene Murray and numerous nephews and nieces which includes Jim and Becky Hurford and Ruth and Tommy Britt.
Royce is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Althea Hurford, his brothers Johnnie D. Hurford, Alva Hurford and Bobby, his sisters Minnie Sparkman, Faye Anderson and by a loving granddaughter Kandi Ary.
Royce loved going hunting, fishing with his son, grandsons and nephews. He enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids playing sports. Royce also loved watching little league baseball games and the Goddard Rockets football games.
He was member of the First Christian Church, Roswell Noon Optimist Club and was on the Roswell City Parks and Recreation committee. Royce also helped with youth football, baseball and basketball leagues. He was a draftsman for Mobil Oil, owner of Rapid Printing and coowner of Turner Hurford Printing.
Serving as pallbearers are Yogi Hurford, Chase Hurford, Cory Mealand, Ron Sparkman, Mike Brown, Gary Rogers, Walter Hicks, Ahmed Carrasco, Marcus AryHicks, and John Michael AryHicks. Honorary pallbearers are Roswell Noon Optimist Club and the Whataburger Coffee Drinkers.
