A rosary service for Robert Ortega Sr. will be held at 6pm on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at St. John’s Catholic Church. A Mass will be held at 2pm on Friday, October 9, 2020 at the Ave Maria Center. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 8, 2020, 12pm to 4pm at Ballard Funeral Home.  Social distancing and masks are required for attendance.

Robert Ortega was born in Roswell, New Mexico, on November 26, 1956 to Eloy Sr. and Oralia Ortega. Robert passed away peacefully Saturday, October 3rd, 2020 with his family at his bedside.

Robert married Elouise Torres, the mother of his children in 1974. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a master carpenter since the age of 16 and worked tirelessly with his brothers at Ortega Brothers Construction for many years. Robert loved hunting and fishing with his family and friends and was always there to lend a helping hand to everyone.

Robert is survived by Elouise Ortega; daughters Alisa Cannon and husband Eric, Christine Pacheco and husband Johnny, and Diana Ortega; and son Robert Ortega Jr. all of Roswell. Grandchildren: Ashley Cannon, Niam Cannon, Ericca Cannon, Kamaia Cannon, Isaiah Pacheco, Julian Orduno, Ethan Sedillo, Dominic Sedillo, Angel Renteria, and Genesis Ortega. Great grandchildren: Ryan Ortega, J.J. Pacheco, and Drey Pacheco.

Robert is also survived by his siblings Anna Mae Marrujo and husband Charlie, Theresa Martinez, Eloy Ortega Jr., Fred Ortega and wife Vera, Danny Ortega and wife Helen, Ernest Ortega and wife Lorena, and Andy Ortega and wife Lydia.

Also left to cherish Robert’s memory are his numerous nieces and nephews; Carlos Marrujo and wife Valerie, Monica Marrujo, Danny Marrujo, Lorena Marrujo, John Marrujo, Dolores Marrujo, Jose Martinez, Maria Martinez, Adrian Ortega, Renee Herrera and husband Jaime, Yvette Ortega, Kathleen Bartley and husband Brian, Danny Ortega Jr., Jeffrey Ortega, Vanessa Ortega, Gabriel Ortega, Adam Ortega, Roman Ortega and wife Deneen, Krystal Ybarra and husband Roger, and Andrea Ortega.  Robert’s God Children: Carlos Irving, Adrian Torres and Isaac Castillo.

Robert’s compadres and life-long friends include Allen Brady, Carlos De Los Santos, Danny Mendiola, Robert Ortiz, Jerry Montoya, Jerry Romero, Alfred Carrillo, Jimmy Molinar, David Matta, Stevie Matta, Victor Gamboa, Mike Sandoval and Calistro Sanchez.

Robert is proceeded in death by his parents Eloy and Oralia Ortega, uncle David and aunt Baby Salas, grandson Robert “Bobbie” Ortega III.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Eric Cannon, Niam Cannon, Johnny Pacheco, Isaiah Pacheco, Ethan Sedillo and Dominic Sedillo.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eloy Ortega Jr., Fred Ortega, Danny Ortega, Ernie Ortega, Andy Ortega, Ralph Flores, Allen Brady, Danny Mendiola, and Toby Marrujo.
