Phyllis Ann Tulk, 67, of Hagerman, passed away Thursday, December 5th, 2013.
She was born to the late J. W. and Elizabeth Tulk, September 3rd, 1946, in Roswell, NM. She earned her degree as a registered nurse at Odessa College in 1970 and went to work for Indian Health Services on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. She went on to serve at the White River Indian Hospital in White River, AZ followed by the Pima Reservation in Sacaton, AZ. She received her degree as a nurse practitioner from the University of Arizona in 1978 after relocating back to Hagerman to set up a satellite clinic. She married her high school prom date, Lee Ledbetter, in 1982.
Phyllis, or Phyllips as the younger children called her, was a Family Nurse Practitioner providing passionate health care for over 40 years, spanning 6 generations, in the Hagerman, Dexter and Roswell communities. Phyllis spent her life giving to others with selfless generosity and integrity and her pro bono medical advice will sorely be missed.
She is survived by her husband, Lee, their horses, Shane and Pancho, and their five dogs, Rosie, Frida, Brandy, Hazel and Rona.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Assurance Home, 1100 E. 18th, Roswell, NM 88201.
A graveside memorial will be held at the Hagerman Cemetery, Saturday, December 14th at 1 pm with reception to follow.
