Phillip James Gonzales, Sr.

August 30, 1964-March 4, 2022

On Friday, March 4, 2022, Phillip James Gonzales, Sr. (57) of Roswell, New Mexico surrounded by his family gained his angel wings and went to be with our Lord and Savior.  A Memorial will be held in Phillip’s honor at Midway Assembly of God in Midway at 3:00 pm, Monday, March 28, 2022.

Phillip James Gonzales, Sr. was born on August 30, 1964, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Roswell, New Mexico to Mary Gonzales Dominguez Carabajal.  He graduated from Portales High School in Portales, New Mexico.  He married the love of his life, Evelyn, in Roswell, New Mexico on August 17, 1998.  Phillip was a Redskins fan like his wife; however, he was also a die-hard Steelers fan!  He loved his Steelers!  Phillip loved to recycle!!  He liked to fish, play pool, and work on cars.  He loved to eat, especially his chicken!  He was definitely an outdoors man.  He enjoyed working with people, landscaping, and tinkering with lawn mowers.  He liked to watch TV; some of his favorites were Storage Wars, Pawn Stars, Bonanza, Ridiculousness, Family Feud, Wheel of Fortune, and Price is Right.  He liked Death Wish, Die Hard, and Dirty Harry.  He liked to play Bingo.  Phillip and Evelyn shared a lot of good times at Bingo Halls.  Being a gambler, Phillip also liked to try his luck at scratchers!  He just knew he had a winner every time!  Everyone said Phillip was a jokester.  He would have a wise crack for every situation.  “He had the gift of gab,” as his brother, Danny, said.  Phillip was always trying to make a dollar any way he could, loading up his van with anything and everything.  Evelyn told him after their last van purchase that he wasn’t doing it anymore because it was a van and not a truck!!  Phillip just smiled and laughed.  Phillip was a great man who will be greatly missed.  He had a great heart and was a hard worker.  He loved his family and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren.  The day before he passed, that’s what he did.  He asked to be driven around and bought his grandkids “light-up-crazy-sounding-toy-fun-guns” and sat in his chair and played with them for as long as he could!  One of Phillip’s favorite sayings with his younger brother Danny was “Get ‘er Done.”  To Phillip--From your wife, children, and family- We love you with our whole hearts, and we thank you for all you did for us and the man you were!  We miss you so much, but we know we will see you again one day! Hasta Luego (until then)!!

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife-Evelyn Gonzales; daughter-Morima De La Rosa and husband, Leo, of Roswell, NM; daughter-Natasha Gonzales and family of California; daughter-Connie Ulibarri of Roswell, NM; son-Phillip Gonzales, Jr. and wife, Cristina of Roswell, NM, and daughter-Refugia Gonzales-Ward and husband, Andrew of Roswell, NM.  His grandchildren he loved and cherished so much:  Giovanna Vaughn, Joia Vaughn, Marques De La Rosa, Octavia Ulibarri, Olin McClain-Ward, Odin McClain-Ward, and Opal McClain-Ward.  His siblings are sister-Connie Juarez of Roswell, NM; brother-Johnny Gonzales and wife, Monica of Roswell, NM, and brother- Danny Carabajal and wife, Rita of Roswell, NM.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews, cousins, and tons of friends.
