Pearl Louise Worley Mason was born July 17, 1924 in Blum Texas, the 9th of 12 children of David S. and Pearl E Worley. She grew up on a farm in central Texas were she was an aspiring singer; then, moved with her family to Hagerman NM in her teens where she met and fell in love with the Mayor's son, Cassius Garner Mason II. They married on April 1, 1943 and Pearl happily gave up her dream of singing professionally to be with her military husband during World War II, living in various cities and later settling in Hagerman to raise their family. Pearl and Garner resided in Hagerman until the mid- 1980's, then her love of Texas, sunshine and beaches inspired them to move to the San Benito area of South Texas. They maintained a home in Hagerman throughout their life, however, San Benito was their permanent residence and Pearl lived there until her passing on January 4, 2016, at the age of 91.
Pearl was a loving, doting wife, mother and grandmother; she stayed active and loved music, dancing, swimming, bingo and the Dallas Cowboys. Pearl was preceded in death by her husband Garner Mason and sons, baby Cassius G. and Steve Eugene Mason.
She is survived by children, Kathleen Mason Rabalais of San Benito TX, Cass Mason of Hagerman NM, Melissa Mason of San Benito TX, and Jenny Williams and husband Monte of Corrales NM. Pearl has eight grandchildren, Deedra Chandler, Jennifer Bratcher, Kendra Sorum, Amber Curtis, Amanda Worthington, Kami Mason, Thad Mason, Alexis Mason and Beau Williams.
