A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, February 16th at the New Mexico Military Institute Chapel for Pauline Crossen Smith. Dr. Hugh Burroughs will officiate. Pauline passed away peacefully at her home on February 11, 2009 at the age of 85. Immediately following the service, friends and family are invited to attend a gathering at the family home .

Pauline was born January 26, 1924 in Roswell to Maude and Arthur Crossen. Her parents preceded her in death. Pauline graduated from Roswell High School in 1941 and Eastern New Mexico University in 1965.

Pauline and Charles Smith became sweethearts at the age the age of 10 and were married in 1944. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on June 5, 2008.

Pauline was an accomplished gardener and master bridge player. She was an avid pottery maker and china painter. She taught Sunday School at the First Christian Church and was nominated by her church and elected Mother of the Year in a city wide contest in 1955.

She taught school at Berrendo Middle School and Goddard High School. She worked as a bookkeeper with her husband at the Pecos Valley Lumber Yard. Pauline also established a plant department when Pecos Valley merged with Houston Lumber Co.

Pauline was very generous with her time with both her friends and the aged and underprivileged. She was especially loving with her children and her children's friends. It was not unusual for Pauline and Charley to take in children who needed a place to live.
