P Paul Homer McClain
A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 19, 2009 at Midway Assembly of God for Paul Homer McClain 73, of Roswell who passed away January 15, 2009 at his home. Rev. Danny Sons and Pastor Onsey Whicker will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Paul passed away at home with his loving wife, children, and family that loved him so very much. Paul had been ill with his heart for several years and this past year had been a real struggle. He was like the pink energizer bunny rabbit, he never stopped. He just went on and on and on.
Paul was born on May 22, 1935 to John J. McClain and Florence Vera Combs. His parents have preceded him in death, as well as a sister, Wanda Mae McClain, a brother, Babe McClain, a grandson, M.J. Madril, two uncles, Austin McClain and Roy Ridgway, two brother in laws, Pat Smith and Lynn Ridgway, two father in laws, John Smith and Curley Ridgway.
Paul married Jerrie Ridgway on October 7, 1966 in Roswell, New Mexico. His wife survives him at the family home. Paul and Jerrie had a blended family plus raised a lot of the neighbor kids as well. They always had a house full which he enjoyed very much.
Paul is also survived by his sons: Paul McClain, Jr. of Houston, Johnny McClain and wife Diana of Houston, Jim McClain and wife Allyson of Roswell, Jay McClain and wife Cindy of Roswell, grandson but more like a son, Daniel Moreno and wife Lori of Roswell; his daughters: Pauline McClain Hunt and husband Richard, Wanda McClain, Tammy McClain, Tamra Gibson and husband Sonny, Paula McClain and Brandy McClain all of Roswell; his brothers: Bill McClain and wife Bonnie of Mayhill, NM, Johnny McClain and wife Vicki of Roswell, David Allen McClain of Hobbs; 33 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; and 5 great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by his close friends Ruby Montes, Lillian Chaves of Capitan, Dale Staten and Jeani Jenkins of Roswell.
Paul was a tree specialist and owned and operated McClains Tree Service in Roswell from 1955 until 2009. Paul was dedicated to his work and loyal to his customers. He was the best and you could tell his work from others in town. He loved to shoot pool with his sons, grandsons, and granddaughter, Haleigh, and anyone else that wanted to play. He was quite a dancer in his time and an excellent square dance caller. He once called a dance in Oklahoma City for John Glenn after he came home from orbiting the earth. Paul loved to watch John Wayne movies and had almost all of his collection. He and Jerrie have one wall dedicated to John Wayne in their home. Another idol of his was Roy Rogers. One of the happiest days of his life was when he and Jerrie walked into his museum and there he stood drinking a cup of coffee. Roy took the time to visit with him and have his picture taken.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons: Eddie Chapin, Travis Daniels, Paul McClain III, Josh McClain, Mannie Trujillo, Charlie McClain, Michael McClain, Hobie McClain, Christopher Moreno, Daniel Moreno, Jay Jay McClain, Jr., Andrew Ward, and EJ Ward.
