Pat passed away Friday August 11, 2023 at Eastern NM Medical Center. Cremation took place at Ballard Funeral Home.

Pat was born on December 20, 1953 in Carlsbad, NM to Don Childress and Peggy Smart. He Graduated from Roswell High School in 1971. He then Joined the U.S. Air Force in 1972 until 1976 where he was a nuclear weapons loan technician. He was with the Eddy County Sheriff Department from January 1979 to January 1999. He retired as captain. In January 1999, he obtained Sierra Security Where he patrolled numerous businesses and the School System in Arteria. In 1999, with the help of all his family he built Cottonwood RV Storage. On April 12, 1973, he married his best friend and lifelong partner Marcia Sterdwick in Minot, North Dakota. Where they had 3 Children, Cutter, Shelby and Arley.

Pat was preceded in death by wife Marcia Childress; father Don Childress; mother Peggy Young; brother Mike Childress and uncle Jack Childress.

His survivors include bothers Gaylon Young and Butch Childress; sons Cutter Childress and wife Charity Childress, Shelby Childress and fiancé Jennifer Mellott; daughter Arley and husband Jimmy Burnside; grandkids Jimmy Jr, Tharyn, Chris, Kade Ryan, Makenzie, Jadian, Roper, Kyran, Airyen, Stormy, Makayla, and Jerry. Pet survivors include Roger and Colt.
