Nancy Christy

March 18, 1924 — January 6, 2016

Nancy Jane Carrier Christy passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home early January 7, 2016, at the age of 91. Nancy was born March 18, 1924 in Lansing, Michigan to Ruth and Reno Carrier. On December 18, 1948 she married Simeon Bush Christy IV. They were married 50 years until his death in 1999.

She earned her Occupational Therapy degree at Milwaukee Downer College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her learned skills as an occupational therapist were mainly used taking care of her three daughters, Sherry, Susie, and Patty. She was the "taxi cab driver" for all the neighborhood children during the day and other parents did the evening drives. Nancy took great pride in being a wife and mother to her family.

She was a member of the St. Mary's auxiliary creating "tray favor's" for patients who were in the hospital during each holiday. She was also a member of the Chaves County Extension, Garden Club, a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, Swim Team Mom, and the Roswell Country Club Ladies Golf Association. In later years she enjoyed playing "Hand and Foot" with her card group.

Nancy and Sim loved to travel. They went on many football trips, Bar Association trips, and visited countries overseas several times. The United States Virgin Islands is what captured their heart. The "Nancy C" was the boat they owned down there; and they loved going to all the different islands. They went as often as possible; and Nancy continued to go after Sim's death.

Nancy was an excellent needle pointer. She belonged to the New Mexico Needle Pointer's Guild. She worked on pieces for the Governor's Residence. She was selected to do ornaments for the National Christmas Tree in the White House. She surprised many of her friends and family with needlepoint ornaments at Christmas or weddings. She loved to embellish all of her pieces with tiny, miniature pieces. "They add to the piece and made them unique for the person. I don't like doing the same thing over and over."

Nancy is preceded in death by her mother and father, Ruth and Reno Carrier; her husband, Simeon B. Christy IV; and her daughter Patricia Christy. She is survived by Sherry C. Eckel and her husband, Jess Eckel of Roswell; Susan W. Christy of St. John USVI. Three grandchildren: Crystal Christy of St. John, USVI, Brent B. Eckel of Fort Worth, Texas; and Megan R. Eckel of Dallas, Texas. She also considered Sherry Witt Keefer as "one of her own".

The family would like to give special recognition to Bea Marquez who worked for the Christy family for over 50 years; Barbara Aguilar who made it possible to keep Nancy in her home for many years. Last, but certainly not least, all the girls at Heartfelt Manor who took excellent care of Nancy the last months of her life. She was one lucky lady to have such wonderful people to look after her.

A funeral services is scheduled for 2 pm, Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Assumption Catholic Church with Father Joe Pacquing officiating. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery. Nancy will lie in state from 9:00 to 5:00 pm on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at Ballard Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers are Greg Russel, Riley Armstrong, Rod Suchmaker, William Cavin, Ellis Vickers and Jay Lankford. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Bozarth and Hutchins Cavin.
