Early on the morning of August 15, 2014, Lue Millicent Rue Purcella went to sleep in the Lord. She is waiting for the soon coming of Jesus to meet him in the air.
Lue Millicent Rue was born January 18, 1917, in Derry, New Mexico, to Amos Harden Rue and Elizabeth Gehring Rue. She had four brothers, Blevins, Ben, and the twins, Harvey and Henry all of whom preceded her in death
She married George W. Purcella in November of 1937 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Born to George and Millicent were Burt Allen, Amos Harvey, and Georgia Louellan.
Millicent worked in the home and grew wonderful gardens. She loved nothing more than to be outdoors working in her garden. She always had a home cooked meal waiting on the stove for whoever came in the door. You never left her home hungry.
Millicent loved spending time with her family. She didnt raise just her children she had a hand in raising her grandkids, great grandkids, and her greatgreat grandkids. Her grandkids loved going to new and different places with their grandma and grandpa. She paved the way for most all of their relationships with Christ.
Millicent loved the Lord with all her heart. She was baptized in the Rio Felix River near Hagerman, New Mexico, when she was 12 years old. She served the Lord by serving her church. She cleaned the church, called members to let them know they were missed, prepared for communion, and for many years she would greet church members and guests with a smile. She always arrived early and would put out the guest book and fold the church bulletins. She was loved by everyone she ever met. She served her church for 80 years.
In the 97 years of her life, Millicent saw many changes in our country. She lived many places and experienced traveling through her life by covered wagon, Model T, train, plane, and current day vehicles. She saw many innovations over these many years. Life was simple as she grew up, times were tough, but you would never hear her complain. She often shared stories about life growing up raising turkeys, the dust bowl years, and working in the homes of many of the prominent people of Roswell to help her family.
Millicent was preceded in death by her mother father her husband, George W her son, Burt Allen her four brothers and numerous other relatives.
She is survived by her son Harvey and wife Margie, her daughter Georgia and husband Donnie, her grandchildren, JuLynn and husband Jerry Truman Brandon and wife Dallas Kyle Todd Acacia Seth and wife Katie Nancy and husband Clint. Also surviving Millicent are her greatgrandkids, Sherrie , Dakotah, Chelsie, Hardt, Kane, Klaudia, Yancey, Ridge, Rhiannon, Noah, and Caleb, and greatgreat grandkids J. J., and Hannah.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 am, Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Ken Davis. Burial will follow at Tinnie Cemetery.
