Memorial services will be held for Michael B. Oden of Roswell, at Ballard Funeral Home at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 13th, 2009. Mike passed away at the age of sixty on Tuesday December 8th, 2009. He passed peacefully in his sleep at home with his family by his side after battling several illnesses.
Mike was born August 8, 1949 to William F. Bud Oden and Mae Von Oden in Carlsbad, New Mexico. He was raised in Carlsbad and remained close to many of his childhood friends. He moved to Roswell in 1970 and opened a small shop. While there, he met and fell in love with Beverly. They married in February, 1971, had four children, and have been blessed with five grandchildren. Mike and Beverly would have celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary in February.
During the first few years of Mike and Beverlys marriage, they traveled with construction throughout Colorado, Utah, Northern and Southern California, Arizona and back to New Mexico, building long-term friendships. Mike started his building career in 1975 in Carlsbad and built homes for families throughout New Mexico. In his later years, he dedicated his time to teaching the building trade. Mike is credited with providing several young men with rewarding careers in the construction industry.
Mike Oden is survived by his wife Beverly A. Oden of Roswell, his daughter Heather C. MacGillivray and her husband Brian of Whitehall, Pennsylvania, his daughter Daphne A. Hawn and her husband Mark of Albuquerque, his daughter Allison Edy Oden and her fianc Matthew Ortega of Roswell, his son William Nathan Oden and his girlfriend Rachel Rehm of Roswell, adopted son Jason Barnard of Springville, California, his grandchildren Derek MacGillivray of Lopez, Pennsylvania, Elise, Allison, and Aiden MacGillivray of Whitehall, Pennsylvania, and Journey Hawn of Albuquerque. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Donald F. Oden.
Mike and Beverly also helped to raise several other children. Over the years, Michael opened his heart and home to anyone needing a place to stay. Being a mentor to so many in
iduals, he was deeply loved and admired, and will be remembered and missed by all that knew him.
The family wishes to invite all those whose lives were touched by Mike to join the family at the memorial service which will be presided over by Jack McCarroll of the Mesa Park Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses. They would also request that donations be made in lieu of flowers. Donations can be made to the Michael Oden Memorial Fund, in care of Beverly Oden, at the Otero Federal Credit Union in Roswell.
