Michael Moritz Sr. “Mike”
1952-2021
Michael Moritz Sr. “Mike” passed away on February 10th at the age of 68. He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma June 14, 1952 to Melvin Moritz and Florence Halfmoon Moritz. After the passing of his parents in Oklahoma, he relocated to Roswell, New Mexico at the age of nine and was adopted by Albert and Doris Moritz. Mike attended schools in Roswell. Mike enjoyed playing football with the Roswell Coyotes. After high school he joined the Army, honorably serving six years till 1977 after which he then returned to Roswell.
While living in Roswell he worked as an over the road truck driver. He enjoyed traveling over the United States and Canada. Later he wanted to spend more time at home and decided to join the New Mexico Correction Academy. After graduating from the Academy, Mike worked for years as a Correctional Officer, for the state of New Mexico and the Chaves County. In 2007 Mike and his wife Debbie relocated to Lincoln Alabama to for favorable employment opportunities. Unfortunately, shortly after settling in Lincoln, Mike became disabled and was no longer able to work. Given his disabilities, Mike was positive and lived with what he had with the support of family and friends.
Mike’s favorite habit was weightlifting in Roswell, New Mexico. He spent a lot of time in the gym, and participated in several weight lifts bench press completions, that he won two awards in 2003.
Mike is survived by his wife Debbie Moritz of Lincoln, Alabama. Also, Mike is survived by his son Michael A. Moritz Jr., and his wife Naomi Moritz of Bluff City, Tennessee, including grandson Jarod Moritz and his wife Mackenzie Moritz, currently station in the Air Force Billings, Montana. Mike is also survived by his daughter Julie Huckins of Roswell, New Mexico and Angela Veal and husband Eric Veal of Cedar Crest, New Mexico including grandson Jack Veal. Mike is also survived by Sister Jeannie Rutledge of Yukon, Oklahoma. He also survived by niece Shasta Rutledge of Oklahoma City and nephew Thomas Rutledge station in the Air Force Las Vegas, Nevada. Mike was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Doris Moritz, son Noe Huckins and Sister Linda Ott.
Graveside service will be held at South Park Cemetery in Roswell, NM on August 6, 2021 at 2pm.
