A funeral service will be held at 7 pm, Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Ballard Funeral Home Chapel for Michael J. Gibson, 66, of Roswell, who passed away on Monday, July 25, 2011 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center surrounded by the love of his family. Pastor Savino Sanchez of Church on the Move will officiate. Michael will lie in state Wednesday, July 27, 2011 from 8:00 to 5:00 pm at Ballard Funeral Home Chapel.

Michael was born December 4, 1944 in Roswell, NM, to Lawrence and Elsie Gibson. He married Estella Sanchez Torres in August 1981. She survives him at the family home. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Albert Gibson, his sister, Marylou Byrd and his sisterinlaw, Maria Antoniette Gibson.

Michael is survived by his wife Estella Gibson of Roswell his son, Sonny Gibson and his wife Tamra of Roswell, his granddaughter Desarae Gibson of Roswell his stepsons, Danny Bascom of Ohio, Victor Bascom of Roswell and Louie Torres of Albuquerque his brothers, Johnny Gibson and his wife Pauline of Roswell, Robert Gibson and his wife Esther of Roswell, Gary Gibson and Richard Gibson of Roswell sisters Linda Gomez and her husband Abel of Roswell and Diane Flores and her husband Florencio of Wilmington, CA.

Michael served our country in the Vietnam War in the United States Army. He worked in the maintenance department at ENMMC and NMMI until he was no longer able to work anymore. He was a lifelong resident of Roswell and a member of Assembly of God Church. Michael was an accomplished artist, guitarist and mechanic. He was loved very much by his family and all who knew him.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Kamp, Kim and Jessie of Critical Care Unit at ENMMC for their love and special care for Michael and his family during his last days.
