There are no services scheduled for Melvin Ray Sonny Hopper, 68, of Dexter who passed away Friday, June 1, 2007 at the home of his brother. Sonny is being cremated per his wishes.

Sonny was born on June 13, 1938 in Roswell, to Jess and Bertha Lyons Hopper.

Sonny was a welder for most of his life and did some farm work for Caster Farmers before retiring due to his health reasons.

He married Cynthia Jean Grubelnik on August 23, 1959, in Raton, NM. They made there home in Roswell and later moved to Clovis.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, three sisters, Laverne, Josephine and Katherine, a father and mother in law and one sister in law Patty Rue Hopper.

Survivors include his daughter Janice David Stroud of Portales, Granddaughter, Nicole Joseph Mader of Colorado Springs, CO, and 3 step-grandchildren, William, Paige and Sarah of Clovis.

Brother: James Hopper of Roswell, three sisters: Jessie Mae Towndrow and Roberta Scates of Roswell, Juanita Kaler, of Jenks, OK. And brother-n-Law Skip Pat Grubelnik of Colorado. Several nieces and nephews, and his special 4 legged kids, Stewart, Max, Prue, Dom, Gunner and Bubs..
