Mary Torrez
God has accepted a new Angel into Heaven and her name is Mary Torrez.
A rosary is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at Ballards Funeral Home, for Mary Sanchez Torrez, 88, of Roswell who passed away October 12, 2009 at a local care facility. A funeral mass is scheduled for 9:30 AM on Friday, October 16, 2009 at Saint Judes Catholic Church in San Patricio, NM. Burial will follow at the Hondo Cemetery.
Mary began her wonderful journey in Lincoln, NM, on April 21, 1921. She was the second child born to Mauro and Tonita Sanchez, both of whom preceded her entry into heaven. Her brothers and sisters were Angelita Chavez, Monroe Sanchez, Nora McTeague, Ernest Sanchez, Cecelia Booky and Dolores Sanchez. Dolores, Nora and Monroe preceded her in death and are also in heaven welcoming their sister.
Mary and Ernest began a romance as teenagers that continued for 67 years. About three years in the romance, Mary married her beloved husband, Ernest Torrez on June 27, 1942 in Carrizozo, NM. Her husband Ernest survives her.
Mary is also survived by her daughter, Ernestina Martinez of Roswell, NM and her husband, Raymond Martinez, and sons, Richard A. Torrez of Tempe, AZ, and Arthur Torrez and his loving partner, Emma Burt of Roswell, NM. In addition, Mary is survived by her five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Mary was a loving wife, a wonderful mother and a great grandmother. She lived in Roswell for over sixty five years, was a homemaker and a member of St. Peters Catholic Church.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Michael Archuleta, Becky Aguilar, Martin Torrez, Sarah Torrez, David Torrez and great grandson, Michael Brandon Archuleta. Honorary Pallbearers are her great grand children, Alexis Nicole Aguilar, Tanner Archuleta, Makayla Archuleta, Garrett Archuleta, Colten Archuleta, Jalen Lovato and Joshua Anderson.
The family would like to thank Marys sister, Cecelia Booky, nieces, Alice Booky, Josephine Booky and Paulina Ponce, along with nephews, Satty Chavez and Jerry Chavez, and family friend, Danny Castro, for their time and effort in helping celebrate her life.
In addition, the family would like to thank Marys neighbors for watching over Mary through the years. the Roswell Fire Department for their professionalism and sensitivity in transporting Mary in her times of need, the caring and compassionate caregivers at Casa Maria Health Care Center and the New Mexico Rehabilitation Center, along with the medical staff at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center.
