Mary Ann Smith, mother, sister, daughter, wife, and friend, who passed in her home January 20, 2012, will be greatly missed. A rosary will be held at Assumption Catholic Church on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at 4:00pm. Funeral services, presided by Kirk Wood, are scheduled for Thursday, January 26, 2012, at 10:00am at Ballard Funeral Chapel. A graveside service at South Park Cemetery will follow. All who wish to celebrate Marys life are welcome to attend.
Mary Ann Smith was born May 1,1965 to James and Noreen MacDougal at an Air Force Base in Athens Greece. She was raised in Roswell, New Mexico where she spent the majority of her life. Mary and Ben Smith married October 21, 1994, and spent seventeen years together loving each other and their combined family. Mary was 46 years old when she passed.
Mary was a loving, kindhearted, and spiritual woman. Her smile was one of her greatest attributes. She found joy in the lives of her children, often telling them, I dont want you to fly, I want you to soar. Even the smallest of their achievements was a great victoryworthy of celebration and a shower of hugs and squeals. She was proud of her husband, her best friend and hero. She loved to shop, paint, meditate, and laugh.
Mary taught at Lake Arthur Middle School and St. Andrews Elementary School for several years. Marys enthusiasm and passion for her students was felt by all who stepped through her classroom door. Mary always liked and found comfort in her collection of angelsmay they help her find peace and welcome her home.
Mary was survived by her husband, Ben Smith children, Thaison Morris, Lauren Lilley, Kristen Lilley, Benjamin Auggie Smith, Tyler Smith, Ashley Smith, Read Admire, Sam Smith, Max Smith, Jack Smith grandchildren, Annjanette, Emilio, Johnathan and Victoria Dutchover siblings, Bill MacDougal, Nancy Serrano, Kathi Davis, Jim MacDougal, Kevin MacDougal, Mike MacDougal, Ann MacDougal Steinhart fatherinlaw Charles Smith and a large extended family.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, James and Noreen MacDougal motherinlaw and inspiration, Pauline Smith and one brother.
