Funeral services are planned for 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 12, at First Presbyterian Church for Mary Hansbro Entrop, who died May 6, a week past her 98th birthday.
Mary Elizabeth Hansbro was born April 30, 1917, on a ranch near Eufaula, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Boyd and Verna Hansbro and had two younger brothers, Boyd Jr., and Robert. All precede her in death. She deeply cherished her memories of growing up on the ranch and particularly loved to share the story of riding her horse to school when she was in first grade. "Ol' Mac" would take her to school and, by himself, return in the afternoon to bring her home.
Deeply patriotic, Mary was a proud member of "The Greatest Generation." Both of her brothers served in Europe during World War II and she took great delight displaying red, white and blue at every opportunity.
After attending Oklahoma A & M, she moved to Roswell to pursue a career as an oil and gas secretary. Later, she worked at Southwestern Public Service Company where she met and fell in love with Robert Kenneth Entrop whom she married on January 26, 1954. At the time of his death in 1984, they had been married 30 years.
Mary was devoted to her children and served many years as a homeroom mom, school volunteer and PTA president, and she was instrumental in starting the library at Missouri Avenue School.
Active for many years in PTA, she held office at the local, area and state levels.
Always a sports fan, Mary loved the Dallas Cowboys but will be remembered as the number one fan of the Berrendo Middle School Bulldogs. She attended hundreds of games, often with one of her grandchildren, and cheered as her daughter, Coach Entrop, led her teams to many city championships.
Mary is survived by her two children, Robert Boyd (Bob) Entrop and Susan Louise Entrop, both of Roswell; Robert's wife Rebecca and their four children; Meredith Entrop of Austin, Texas, Erica Gorelick and her husband Atom of Hollywood, California, Laura Johnson of Ithaca, New York, and Paul Johnson of Breckenridge, Colorado; and dear family friend, Sally Knight.
The Entrop family extends heartfelt appreciation to Betty, Lisa, Amanda, Eva and Olga, the caregivers at Emeritus, who gave their love and added so much to Mary's life.
To honor Mary's love for children, Robert and Susan ask that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to CASA of Chaves County.
