Mary Ely

Mary O. Ely was born October 3, 1915, in Caddo, Oklahoma to Nellie and Henry Eichenberger and died June 16, 2014.

She grew up in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, attended the University of Missouri, and married Bob Ely Robert V. April 11, 1936. They moved to Roswell in l947.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Bob, by her daughter Nancy Ely Wright, and by her grandson John Robert Wright. She is survived by her daughters Susan Ryan and Molly Hunter Johnny, by three grandsons Brian Wright, John Hunter Samara and Robert Hunter Melissa, by three great grandsons, Justin, Dylan Susan, and Brendan Wright.

Mary and Bob believed strongly in supporting their community. They, along with several other couples, organized the Republican Party of Chaves County and never lost interest in the vagaries of politics. They also worked to bring ENMMC to Roswell, and Mary was an active volunteer at the hospital from the day it opened until her death she most recently served on the committee to select recipients of the Auxiliary Nurses Scholarships. Mary also gave generously of her time and energy and talents to St. Andrews Episcopal Church from 1947 to the present.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Tuesday, June 24, 2014, 10:30 A.M. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall after the service.
