aligncenterIve just been to heaven
aligncenterWith someone so true
aligncenterI dreamed about mama last night
aligncenterShe read me the bible
aligncenterLike she used to do
aligncenterI dreamed about mama last night
aligncenterShe never closed her eyes in sleep
aligncenterTill we were all in bed
aligncenterAnd on party nights till we came home
aligncenterShe often sat and read
aligncenterWe little thought about it then
aligncenterfor we were young and gay
aligncenterJust how much mama worried
aligncenterWhen we children were away
aligncenterWe only knew she never slept
aligncenterWhen we were out at night
aligncenterAnd that she waited just to know
aligncenterThat wed all come home alright
aligncenterWhy sometimes when wed stay
aligncenterAway until one or two or three
aligncenterIt seemed to us that mama
aligncenterHeard the turning of the key
aligncenterfor always when we stepped inside
aligncenterShed call and wed reply
aligncenterBut we were all too young back then
aligncenterTo understand the reason why
aligncenterUntil the last one had returned
aligncenterShed always keep a light
aligncenterFor mama couldnt sleep
aligncenterUntil shed kissed us all goodnight
aligncenterShe had to know that we were safe
aligncenterBefore she went to rest
aligncenterFor she seemed to fear
aligncenterThe world might harm
aligncenterThe ones she loved the best
aligncenterAnd once she said when your grown
aligncenterInto women and to men
aligncenterPerhaps Ill sleep
aligncenterThe whole night through
aligncenterI may be different then
aligncenterAnd so it seemed
aligncenterThat night and day
aligncenterWe knew a mothers care
aligncenterThat always when we got back home
aligncenterWed find her waiting there
aligncenterThen came the night
aligncenterThat we were called
aligncenterTo gather round her bed
aligncenterYour children are all with you now
aligncenterThe kindly doctor said
aligncenterAnd in her eyes there gleamed again
aligncenterThat old time tender light
aligncenterThat told us shed been waiting
aligncenterJust to know we were alright
aligncenterShe smiled that old familiar smile
aligncenterHer children safe from harm
aligncenterThroughout the years
aligncenterAnd then she went to sleep
aligncenterMy dream is a treasure
aligncenterThat Ill always keep
aligncenterI dreamed about mama last night
