Martha Vasquez

Martha Vasquez went to be with her lord on May 12, 2008. Martha was born in Deming, NM on January 10, 1944 to Rebecca and Eduardo Garcia. Martha attended Roswell Schools and graduated from St. Peters Catholic School in 1962. Martha attended ENMU and earned her Masters in elementary education in 1980. After teaching in Portales for 7 years, she moved to Roswell and taught at Nancy Lopez Elementary for the next 22 years and retired in 2005. Martha had a passion for teaching. She enjoyed and loved all the children she had the privilege of having in her class. Martha also enjoyed working with all her colleagues and thought highly of them. Martha was a member of Assumption Church and did her weekly Eucharistic Adoration. She also enjoyed being a member of PHI DELTA KAPPA. Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, reading, and mentoring her grandchildren.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents Eduardo Garcia and Rebecca Coomer. She is survived by her two daughters, Angela and her husband Robert Fox of Clovis, NM and Veronica Lucero of Roswell; her four grandchildren Victoria and Christina Fox of Clovis, NM and Emily and Goshuah Lucero of Roswell. Her four brothers, Raymond and his wife Loretta Garcia, Eddy Garcia, Jerry and his wife Julie Garcia, Louie Garcia, Albert and his wife Marty Garcia, her sister Mary Juarez of Las Vegas, NM and numerous nieces and nephews. Also, her very dear friend Rosemary Sanchez who was there to help and comfort Martha.

There will be a Rosary at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Assumption Catholic church. There will be a funeral mass immediately following at 9:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Chaves County School Employees Credit Union that will go towards ENMMC Cancer Treatment Center.
