Markus (Mark) Ray Hamilton
Markus (Mark) Ray Hamilton, 69, passed away on January 25, 2022 after a short illness brought on by pneumonia surrounded by loving family members. Mark's ashes will be placed in the General Douglas L. McBride Veteran Cemetery in Roswell, NM, no services will be held.
Mark was born in Yuma, AZ on March 9, 1952 to Paul Hamilton and Bettie Ruth (Neighbors) Hamilton, who preceded him in death. Mark and his family moved to Roswell when Mark was young, and he lived here his whole life.
Mark attended local schools and graduated from Goddard High School in 1970. He attended two years of college before being drafted in October of 1972. Joining the United States Army, he finished his service in the 48th Infantry after serving in Germany for two years of active duty. He was honorably discharged from the reserves in October 1978.
Returning to Roswell, Mark married Sharon (Shari) Robinson Miles on March 25, 1978, making their home with Shari's daughter Tedi in Roswell. Mark spent the majority of his working life in the oil and gas industry in Eastern New Mexico and West Texas. He eventually owned and operated several different companies, retiring from H&H Pumping Inc. in 2016.
While on the GI bill, Mark obtained his private pilot's license and greatly enjoyed flying single engine airplanes around Roswell and surrounding areas. He also obtained his Associates of Arts Degree from Eastern New Mexico University. Never one to be idle, Mark was active in the Masons for some time and served as Master of the Felix Lodge #29 in Hagerman. He also obtained a Real Estate license and sold real estate in Roswell all while operating his own pumping company.
Mark loved his family and extended family and was a generous and giving person fondly referred to as Papa. He loved working on the family property outside Roswell and was delighted to partner with the New Mexico Game and Fish Department to allow access to the Berrendo Creek for fishing off of Red Bridge Road. He enjoyed fishing and his best fishing buddy was his great-grandson, Alan.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law Ted Robinson. Mark is survived by his brother Ronnie Hamilton and wife Shari; daughter Tedi Brackeen (Mark); sister-in-law Susan Robinson (Joe Koljat); and mother-in-law Alma Robinson all of Roswell. He is also survived by his granddaughter Kyra Cash (Cody) and great grandsons Alan and Arlo Cash, of Severance, CO; grandson Kaylyn Gross (Sara) of Norfolk, VI; grandson Jordan Hamilton of Boise, ID; nephew Erik Hefyte (Michelle) of Country Club, MO; niece Erica Jaramillo (Jonathan) of Gig Harbor, WA along with numerous cousins scattered around the country. And let us not forget the precious menagerie at the Hamilton property, the pups Rusty Ray, Smokey, Foxy, and Max; the kitties Gypsy, Mr. Lucky, C.J. and Missy; and that crazy peacock R2 with mate Juliet.
The family would like to give special thanks to the EMTs and Roswell Fire Department personnel for transporting Mark to ENMMC and to the staff in the Emergency Room and the Critical Care Unit at ENMMC. We are so grateful to Erica, Teri, Dr. Nazon and Dr. Belyaev for their exceptional care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Tobosa Developmental Services in Roswell, the Friends of Roswell Animals, or a charity of their choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 308 N. Red Bridge Road in Roswell on Saturday, February 5, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. All friends are welcome to come and celebrate with the family.
