Marcella Marie Downer
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, February 4, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Los Alamos Senior Center for Marcella Downer 83, of Roswell who passed away at her home on Friday, January 28, 2011. Marcie will be buried next to her late husband John B. Jack Downer, who preceded her in death in 1971.
Marcie was born September 11, 1927 in Buffalo, NY to Walter and Isabelle Jendrasiak Wozniak. She was preceded in death by both parents and her brother Joe Wozniak.
She is survived by her sons Jay Downer of Santa Cruz, CA and Ken Downer of Las Cruces, NM, daughter Mary Colby and her husband Jack of Roswell, grandchildren, Deryk Colby, Ray Downer, Chelsea Colby, Jacob Colby, Sara Breeden, Ciara Colby, Marty Christensen, Michelle Aikin, Talia Christensen, Coleena Aikin, Evan Christensen and Arlo Christensen, four great grandchildren and her beloved dog Betsy.
Marcie was a resident of Los Alamos from 19512000. She then relocated to Roswell. While in Los Alamos, she was a favorite teacher to numerous students at Mountain Elementary School. Marcie was heavily involved in the Los Alamos Little Theater and Los Alamos Light Opera. Marcie and Jack codirected a number of productions, while Marcie directed a wide variety of other plays. Her passion for the theater was shown as she was the gotoguy in other duties such as prompter, stage manager and ticket sales director. She was also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and pet lover. Marcie supported her children in all of their endeavors, was a wonderful cook and loved all of her children and grandchildren.
