Louis O. Matta
A rosary is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 20, 2009 at St. Johns Catholic Church for Louis O. Matta, 83, who passed away August 17, 2009 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center in Roswell. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 21, 2009 at St. Johns Catholic Church. Fr. Juan Montoya O.F.M. of St. Johns Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
Louis was born in Rule, Texas on January 26, 1926 to Francisco Matta and Josefina Ornelas Matta. His parents have preceded him in death as well as a son, Louis Matta Jr. and two daughters, Mary Sanchez and Margaret Matta.
Louis married Frances Martinez in Dexter, NM in 1946. She survives him at the family home.
Louis is also survived by his sons: Steve Matta and wife Gabi of Alamogordo, NM, David Matta of Roswell, Rudy Matta and his wife Julie of Roswell and George Matta and his wife Ana of Roswell; his daughters: Annie Gutierrez of Las Cruces, NM, Angie Stubbe of Alamogordo, NM, Sandra Padilla and her husband Robert of Lewistown, Mont. and Laurie Matta of Albuquerque, NM. He also had 28 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren.
Louis was a self employed contractor. He was a member of the St. Johns Mens Club, an usher at church and also played on St. Johns softball team. He coached little league at east side and was a golden glove boxer. Louis was avid hunter, fisherman, horseman, and he loved camping and the outdoors.
Pallbearers will be Rafael Gutierrez, Mike Guerin, Joseph Sanchez, Louis Matta III, David Matta Jr., Anthony Matta, Eric Matta, and Joshua Matta. Honorary pallbearers will be his sons: Steve Matta, Rudy Matta, David Matta, and George Matta.
