Lorraine M. Lippies Cavanaugh Chewning, 87, a longtime resident of Roswell, succumbed to congested heart failure, Saturday afternoon, June 26, 2010, at her home, with her beloved husband, Robert L. Chewning, at her side. Lorraine was born in Rolla, Missouri on August 6, 1922 to Arthur L. Lippies and Margaret Kuhnlein Lippies whom preceded her death. Also preceding her in death is a brother, Arthur Lippies. Arthurs wife, Georgia Lippies, resides in Dallas, Texas. Lorraine was known by family and friends as Lorrie. She was previously married to John P. Cavanaugh, who preceded her in death. They had five children, three sons and two daughters as follows: Michael J. Cavanaugh and Patrick T. Cavanaugh, both previously deceased, Colleen M. Cavanaugh Blackman of Las Cruces, NM, Timothy J. and Belinda Cavanaugh of Albuquerque, NM, and Cathleen and Luther Cavanaugh Jones of San Benito, TX.
Lorrie was the proud grandmother of seven grandchildren as follows: Daniel V. Gibson of Denver, CO, Michael S. Gibson of Tampa Bay, FL, and Sean P. Blackman of Albuquerque, NM, Dillon R. Jones, Dakota R. Jones, and Dustin R. Jones of San Benito, TX, Kimberly Sparks of Lubbock, TX, and John P. Cavanaugh Jr., son of Dianh Cavanaugh of Tucson, AZ. On February 15, 1993, Robert Bob Chewning and Lorrie were married and enlarged their family of two daughters, Mary Lou Chewning and Jack Davis of Scottsdale, AZ and their son Brian T. Davis and his daughter Astarte Davis of Portland, OR, and Susan Chewning and Norm Siepel of Carlsbad, NM and their children, Jennifer L. Siepel of Houston, TX, and Josh D Siepel of Brighton, Egland.
Besides being a housewife and fulltime mother, Lorrie worked for twenty years as an elementary school secretary at Sunset and Berrendo Elementary schools. She cared for students in the nurses absence, and assisted principal, Zee Hunter, in running the school. Her husband, Bob Chewning, Roswell native and owner of Chewning Footwear, devoted the past 17 years to his loving wife, Lorrie.
Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peters Catholic Church. Interment will follow at South Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Roswell Humane Society 703 E. Mcgaffey, Roswell, NM 88203.
