Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Ballard Funeral Home Chapel for Lois Loudat, who died at her home on Monday morning, May 31, at the age of 85. Rev. Stephanie Harmon of First United Methodist Church will preside.
Born Lois Lillian Hill on Feb. 18, 1925, in Tarpon Springs, Fla., to F.W. and Geneva Hill, Lois moved with her parents and her brother, Lowell, to Roswell when she was about 6. In 1943, she graduated from Roswell High School as valedictorian. Lois learned to fly while in high school and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. In 1945 she met 2nd Lt. Edward W. Loudat at a dance at Roswell Army Airfield Officers Club. It was only few days later that they began their nearly 65 years of marriage bliss.
The young couple returned to Eds hometown of Parma, Ohio, upon his discharge from active duty in 1946, so he could complete his college education at Fenn College in Cleveland. A couple of years later, following the birth of their first son, they returned to Roswell, where he worked for F.W. Hill Plumbing and Heating Co. as a plumber and she cared for their growing family.
Ed took over his fatherinlaws business in 1952, and Lois assisted him in the business for many years while raising their four children. Ed considered her his faithful partner and helper for more than 64 years.
Lois was very supportive of her childrens various athletic endeavors, primarily baseball and track and field, and she watched proudly as all of them followed her as graduates of Roswell High and they all received college degrees.
Lois has been a member of First United Methodist Church in Roswell since she was a child. For many years she also served in a number of capacities as a member of the Daughters of the Nile and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Ed, of the home sons: Web of Brandon, England, Edward Jr. and his wife, Blair, of Portland, Ore., John and his wife, Kathy, of Albuquerque a daughter, Melissa and her partner, Jimmie Rhodes, of Albuquerque two granddaughters: Mary Kelly and her husband, George, of Vancouver, Wash., and Joni Byers and her husband, Andy, of Albuquerque and greatgrandchildren Alyssa Byers and Ethan Kelly.
The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Roswell Masonic Lodge 18, P.O. Box 1512, Roswell, NM 882021512 the Roswell Humane Society, 703 E. McGaffey, Roswell, NM 88203 or the Charity of your choice.
