Locretta Havener

LoCretta Havener passed away in Conroe, Texas while in the presence of her daughter Maria Jeanette (Havener) Henry. She is survived by her children Jeanette of Spring, Texas, son Pat (wife Jamie) Havener of Rapid City, SD, son John Paul (spouse Tamara) Havener of Calhoun Tennessee, seven grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, six sisters, her husband of 46 years, John Havener Jr, and her husband Wayne Seago. She also lost 2 children during pregnancy.
LoCretta was born and raised in Lamar, Arkansas. During World War II she worked in an army uniform factory in Abilene Texas while Sargent John Havener served as a drill instructor for medics at Camp Barkeley army training installation in Abilene and then overseas in the European Theatre. Their first child Jeanette was born during this time. Jeanette is named after Jeanette street in Abilene where LoCretta and John had their first home. After the war John and LoCretta returned to Arkansas where John earned his teaching degree from the University of Arkansas.
She moved with her husband John to Lake Arthur, New Mexico in 1950. Lake Arthur was LoCretta primary residence for the next 62 years. Both sons Pat and John Paul were born to LoCretta in Artesia and raised in Lake Arthur.
LoCretta worked in various positions in the Lake Arthur school system for a number of years then decided she wanted a teaching degree. She traveled daily from Lake Arthur to Portales attending Eastern New Mexico University earning her bachelor degree in early education during her early 40s. During the summers, she continued her education earning a Masters Degree from Eastern New Mexico University at age 50. She taught various grades in Cimarron and Des Moines, New Mexico.
LoCretta was know for her dedication to her children, her determination, her love of travel and a love of argument. She is remembered fondly by her students as an approachable and loving teacher who was fond of finding a way to add some fun to all educational activities.
LoCretta was a born-again Christian whose spirit is now with her Lord Jesus in Heaven. Those who also know the Lord will see her again someday. Her body will be buried next to her husband John in Lake Arthur cemetery.
