Lewis William Mulkey, born June 19, 1927, died peacefully, while surrounded by his family, in his home on April 11th, 2017. Lewis was born to Ewing Edwin Mulkey and Myrtle Missouri Mayer in McCamey, Texas. He had one brother named E.L. (Lee) Mulkey, who predeceased him.
Lewis met Doris LaNell Campbell in Sundown, Texas. They had a brief courtship and were married on September 19, 1945 shortly before Lewis was drafted into the United States Army on September 26, 1945. Lewis was honorably discharged from the Army on November 23rd, 1946. He and Doris returned to Roswell where he began working for Valley Glass. While working for Valley Glass, Lewis learned how to make to make stained glass. Lewis enjoyed perfecting his stained-glass talents throughout his life and was able to create many beautiful pieces of art. Lewis then went to work for Transwestern Pipeline, where he worked for 24 years as a heavy equipment operator. Later he worked as a pipeline inspector for MBF Services, and as a truck driver in Littlefield, Texas.
Lewis was a gifted woodworker and jeweler. He made furniture, toy cars, and turquoise jewelry. He and Doris loved traveling the country together, attending arts and crafts fairs, selling their creations. He loved camping and fishing with his daughters and grandsons. Lewis was a 50-year Master Mason at Roswell Lodge #18.
Lewis and Doris were married for 71 years. Doris predeceased Lewis in March of 2016. Lewis and Doris had two daughters, LaNell Louise Mulkey, who predeceased him, and Cindy Ragsdale, who is married to Paul. They had five grandsons, Lewis Fish, who is married to Nikki, Scott Fish, Mark Fish, Luke Ragsdale, who is married to Adriann, and Joshua Ragsdale, who is married to Megan. They have 7 great-grandchildren, Justin and Bailey Fish, Trevor Fish and Kendra Egerton, Alexandra Ragsdale, and Russell and Briggs Ragsdale. They have one great-great-granddaughter, Paisleigh Egerton.
A very special thanks to Julie Adams and his caregivers Erika, Jennifer, Maria, and Lupita, for caring for Lewis in his final days.
Family and friends are welcomed to join us for a luncheon to honor Lewis at 11:30am at Christ's Church on Wednesday, April 26, 2017. Memorial service will be held at 1:30pm, Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Christ ‘s Church with burial to follow at South Park Cemetery.
