Funeral services will be held at St. Johns Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. for Leo Fajardo, Jr. There will be a Rosary service on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 7:00 P.M., also at St. Johns Catholic Church. Following the services his remains are to be cremated and interred at the Houston National Cemetery for veterans in Houston, Texas at a later date to be determined. Leo went to be with the Lord on April 16, 2013 at his home in Houston, Texas surrounded by family and friends. He lived life to the fullest despite his battle with cancer.
Leo was the son of Hortencia Fajardo and the late Leo Fajardo, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Mary Fajardo, three daughters Dorinda Johnson, Melissa FordSimmons, and Jennifer Obar, and seven grandchildren, Brenden Johnson, Erik Johnson, Trent Johnson, Kristen Johnson, Peyton Ford, Macy Ford, and Lola Obar. Leo was part of a large, loving family of eight brothers and one sister. His surviving siblings include Pascual Fajardo, Raymond Fajardo, Paul Fajardo, Lewis Fajardo, Michael Fajardo, and Anita Sandoval. He was preceded in death by his brothers Ricky Bustamante, Manuel Fajardo and John Fajardo. Leo was born and raised in Roswell, New Mexico where he met his high school sweetheart, Mary Linda Chavez. They were married April 20, 1968 after Leo enlisted in the Army. He served his country in Ethiopia, Africa during the Vietnam War as a Morse code intercept in the National Security Agency. He and his wife raised their children in Roswell. Leo retired in Houston, Texas after 28 years with Enron and their subsidiaries. He cherished his family and always stressed the importance of a strong bond with those he loved. Leo enjoyed nothing more than the chance to fire up the grill for friends and family as a way to give to those around him. That sense of giving also led Leo to help and mentor numerous people, never expecting anything in return. He was a gentle and humble man carrying himself with the utmost integrity and dignity. Despite his ongoing battle with cancer, his philosophy remained, I have my good days, and I have my great days. He will forever be missed by those whose lives he touched.
