Graveside services are scheduled for 11 am, Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at South Park Cemetery for L.C. Stiles, 88, who passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Heartfelt Manor. Pastor Dave Miller of First Baptist Church will be officiating. Roswell Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military graveside services. The family will greet friends at Ballard Funeral Home Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 5 to 7 pm.
L.C. was born July 25, 1925 in Roswell, NM to Luther and Amy Taylor Stiles who preceded him in death. He is also preceded in death by his brothers Charlie Stiles, Jake Stiles and Bill Stiles sisters Nellie Farris and Marelle Andrus and his granddaughter Ashlye Stiles. L.C. married Phyllis Nannette Kragrud on March 28, 1947 in Roswell
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Phyllis Stiles of Roswell sons Larry C. Stiles and wife Alice of Roswell, NM and Ricky T. Stiles and Christina of Rio Rancho, NM daughter Vicki Winder and husband Dick of Granbury, TX sister Ann Goodwin of Ruidoso, NM brotherinlaw Roy Kragrud of Roswell, NM grandchildren Alison Nicholson and husband Brian , Jacob Stiles and wife Valerie, Julie Lynn and husband Jeff, Meredith Shackelford, Brady Shackelford and wife Melanie and Kristian Stiles and husband Marius and sixteen great grandchildren.
L.C. served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. L.C was a past member of Downtown Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge 18. He was on the City Council for eighteen years and Mayor of Roswell from 1978 to 1982. L.C. was active in Little League and American Legion Baseball and was one game short of going to Williamport, PA for the Little League World Series in 1964. L.C. along with R.J. Dodson built the facilities where Stiles Field is now located. L.C. was a plaster and stucco contractor and operated his business in Roswell for fifty years.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Heartfelt Manor for their care and love to L.C. in these last few months.
