LaVerne Walter Brandt
LaVerne Walter Brandt passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at the age of 85. He was born March 20, 1935 in Hillpoint, Wisconsin to Herman and Emma Brandt. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Barbara (Penland Patterson) Brandt.
LaVerne was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hillpoint, Wisconsin.
LaVerne grew up on the family dairy farm in Hillpoint, Wisconsin where he survived polio as a young boy. He graduated from Lime Ridge High School in 1953 where he excelled in basketball and baseball. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served in the Corps of Engineers in Korea from 1954 through 1956. LaVerne has been a Roswell resident since his honorable discharge in 1956. He worked as a truck driver for Five Fifty Land Company and Roswell Redi Mix, local cement companies. He then worked as Maintenance Director at Memorial Osteopathic Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital and Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, retiring in March of 2000. He was a faithful member of Grace Community Church, serving in many capacities.
He Is survived by his son, Varney Brandt (Melissa) of Roswell, daughter, Kerri Shaw of Las Cruces, stepson Kraig Patterson Sr. (Rachel) of Roswell; grandchildren, Justin Brandt (Alla) of Camas,
Washington, Nathan Brandt (Megan) of Roswell, Stephen Brandt of Phoenix, Arizona, Stephanie Lucero of Roswell, Brandon Shaw (Melanie) of Port Republic, Virginia, Ashley Shaw (Frank) of Las Cruces,
Monica Patterson of Roswell, and Kraig Patterson, Jr. of Roswell; Ten great-grandchildren, Sydney, Colson, Sava, Audrey, Connor, Jerzy, Devin, Briella, Kash and Aliah; his sister, Dolores Goetsch of Reedsburg, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Roberta Castellino of Murphysboro, Illinois; former spouse, Stella Brandt of Roswell; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
LaVerne was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Emma Brandt; sister, Mildred and husband Melvin Rose; brother, Raymond and wife Virginia Brandt; brother-in-law, Earl Goetsch; and stepson, Kevin Patterson.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 24,2021 at South Park Cemetery, with Pastor Rick Hale of Grace Community Church officiating. Burial with military honors will follow.
