Laura Ruth Corn Nelson joined her Father in Heaven on Tuesday, September 28, 2021. Born June 22, 1932 to Jesse William Corn and Ruth Edwina Huff, though she grew up at Eden Valley Ranch, Laura Ruth became a musician early in life. Laura Ruth studied vocals as well as piano and performed regularly for a number of events in New Mexico. She graduated with 2 degrees, one from Colorado State Teachers College and the other from University of New Mexico. Laura taught in Albuquerque and Roswell public schools as well as music privately.
Laura Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Bill Nelson, as well as her children: her son, Thomas Edward Nelson and daughter-in-law, Maureen Jennings Nelson, as well their three children, Rachel, Emmit, and Megan; her daughter, Margaret Ruth Fritts and her husband, David Fritts as well as their two children, David Luke Fritts and Charity Yu and her husband Timothy Yu and their two children, Peter and Tabitha; and finally her daughter, Rebecca Nelson Kruc and her husband, Michael Kruc, and their eight children including Jacintha Clark, Stephen Kruc, Joshua Kruc and his wife Jess and their two children, Sophia and Brody, Marilyn Kruc, Thomas Kruc, Philip Kruc, and Moriah Kruc. In addition, Laura Ruth has a number of nieces and nephews that survive her.
In addition to being a member of the Music Guild, the Roswell Symphony Guild, and P.E.O., Laura Ruth was an active member of the Daughters of the American Colonists, the Daughters of the Confederacy, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Historical Society for Southeastern New Mexico, and the Wilson-Cobb Historical Society. Her passion was genealogy, and she traveled across the United States searching for family history and genealogy. Laura Ruth also enjoyed Community Bible Study, crafting, and was known for her hand-made cards. Laura Ruth will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, October 8, 2021 at Grace Community Church with graveside to follow at South Park Cemetery. Her pallbearers will be her grandsons: Stephen Kruc, David Luke Fritts, Philip Kruc, Emmit Nelson, and her granddaughters, Jacintha Kruc and Rachel Nelson.
Laura survived numerous rounds of cancer and had a zest for working with children. Therefore, the family requests, in lieu of flowers or trees, that memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 in her name, or to Harvest Ministries, 601 N. Main St., Roswell, New Mexico 88201.
Laura Ruth did not pass away from Covid-19, but the family encourages everyone to get their vaccine!
