Larry Lavon Gill
A military graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 2, 2009 at South Park Cemetery for Larry Lavon Gill, 70 of Roswell who passed away Monday, June 29, 2009 at a local care facility. Bob Maples will officiate.
Larry was born on October 28, 1938 to Ollie B. Ralston Gill and William Luther Gill. He married Hazel Johnson in July of 1981 in Crossett, Arkansas. He is survived by a brother, Jerry Gill and wife Karen of Crossett; three sisters, Lillian O'Neal and Ellen C. Gueringer, both of Sulphur, LA, and Janet Wright and husband David of Vivian, LA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ollie B. Ralston Gill, his father William Luther Gill, and wife Hazel Johnson Gill.
Larry was exceedingly proud of his service to his country, and spoke of it often. He was proud to have been able to serve in the United States Army both stateside and overseas, including combat during the Vietnam War. At the end of his dedication to his country he retired with a purple heart.
Larry was a good friend to all who knew him, and he treated everyone with respect, including those who sometimes did not deserve it. He was a giving person to those who mattered in his life and many times went out of his way to help his family. He was faithful to his word and generous to a fault. Those who knew him well knew that he could always be relied on if you stumbled. In his last years he relocated to Roswell, where he met the Khavari family, which he came to feel part of. Larry often mentioned what good friends he had found. Their kindness, through out his last four years gave him much joy in spite of the pain he endured from his various health problems.
