Junius Austin Montgomery of Roswell, NM, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2007. He was born December 24, 1921, to Hart Montgomery and Sara Frances Hammon Montgomery in St. Francis, KS, a resident of Roswell, N.M. Since 1993, Junius spent most of his working life as an electrician for numerous years before retiring from Chrysler Assembly Plant in Fenton, MO, prior to which he farmed and served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Paratrooper in the 101st Airborne from 1944-1946. He received the Bronze Star for his involvement in the Central European Campaign. He honorably served his country in the time of war as did his ancestors from the American Revolution and his descendants to the present time. He loved animals and was very proud of the Black Angus Cattle and Appaloosa Horses he raised through the years prior to his retirement. Junius is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Bonna Nell Bonnie and three sons, Richard Hartley, his wife Charlene of Orlando, FL, James Neil of Camden Point, MO and Robert Lee of St. Louis, MO, nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two children, a son, Lowell Austin, a daughter, Carol Jo, and a grandson Michael Boyd Myhre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Mexico Christian Childrens Home, 1356 NM 236, Portales, NM 88130, 505-356-5372 or the Salvation Army of Roswell.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 14, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at South Park Cemetery.
