Julius Goodart

November 20, 1920 — February 3, 2018

Julius J. "Dude" Goodart passed away in Roswell, NM on Saturday, February 3rd, 2018 at the age of 97.

He is survived by his children; Julie Ann Goodart of Roswell, NM, Julius Dan Goodart of Lake Arthur, NM, his half-brother Richard Harris of Prescott Valley, AZ, his grand-children; SSG David Christopher Bell of Lacey, WA, Kristen Bell of Austin, TX, David, Jonathan, and Mathew Goodart of Alexandria, VA, and great-granddaughter, Daisy Bell of Lacy, WA. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Dan Goodart of Roswell, NM, married 69 years, and his mother and father Daisy and Julius Goodart of Roswell, NM.

Known primarily as "Dude", he was a native of Roswell, born on November 20, 1920. In his early years he lived on the Goodart farm with his grandparents Julius H and Clara Goodart, attending LFD primary school and Roswell High School. His summers were spent with his mother, Daisy, and grandmother, Alice roaming the hills in Ruidoso, NM. On July 18, 1942, Julius married his sweetheart, Dixie Dan Goodart and they raised two children together. After serving in Italy as a Sargent in the Army Air Corp during WWII, he returned to his job at Mountain Bell Telephone and retired as an engineer after 35 years.
Dude loved the Lord and was a man of high moral character and integrity. He volunteered at the Christian television station KRPV and actively attended church throughout his life.

A man of many talents and hobbies, Dude was a horseman and spent countless hours riding with his family. He was an avid golfer (made a hole in one!), skilled silversmith, leatherworker, carpenter and loved oil painting. As a young man he took up flying lessons and flew around the state in his "Old Yeller Dog". Later he put many miles on his beloved motorcycle and also traveled the country with Dixie in their RV.

Julius was a devout Christian, a family man, an adventurer, a talented artist, a hard worker. He had a quick wit, a generous heart, and was loved by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at Ballard Funeral Home on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Graveside service to follow at South Park Cemetery with Rick Hale of Grace Community Church officiating.
