Joyce Jenkins
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Hagerman Cemetery with Pastor Rick Hale of Grace Community officiating. Mrs. Jenkins passed away Saturday, January 11, 2020 in Hereford, TX. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Ballard Funeral Home.
Joyce King was born April 1, 1925 in Hillsboro, TX to James and Nellie (Cantrell) King. She attended schools in Hillsboro School District until her senior year. During her senior year the family moved to Hagerman and she finished her educational career at Hagerman High School. While in High School she met Lindon Jenkins and they became childhood sweethearts. They married the next year on March 17, 1944 in Hagerman. After school she worked in grocery stores. In 1955 Joyce began working Southern Union Gas Company and worked there until her retirement.
Joyce loved arts and crafts, ceramics, painting and pencil drawings. Painting potted plants and birds were her favorites. In 2016 her profile appeared in the King’s Manor Newsletter, it stated, “her smile lights up a room” She was a strong, devout Christian, and an active member of the Presbyterian Church. Joyce was very supportive of her family and the activities in which they were involved. She always wanted to know what was happening in Hereford and with Ray.
Those left to mourn her passing are two sons, Ray Jenkins and wife Darla of Hereford and Darrell Jenkins and wife Susan of Tucson, AZ; one brother Doyle King; grandson Dusty Clark and wife Candice and one great-granddaughter Baby Lily.
Also surviving are special friends, Katherine Smith, Maggie Goff, Joe Sutherland Jr. and daughter Nicole.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lindon Jenkins; daughter Patricia Jenkins and six siblings.
The family suggests memorials in Mrs. Jenkins name be made to King’s Manor Methodist Retirement System, 400 Ranger, Hereford, TX 79045 or to The First Presbyterian Church, 610 Lee Ave, Hereford, TX 79045.
