A rosary is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Ballard Chapel for Josie Whitaker, 80, of Roswell who passed away, March 10, 2008 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. A funeral mass is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2008 at the Ballard Chapel. Deacon Howard Herring of St. Peters Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.

Josie was born on March 19, 1927 to Delphido J. Valdez and Octaviena Garcia Valdez in Las Tapias, NM. Her parents have preceded her in death as well as four brothers: Octavieno Valdez, Antonio Valdez, Waldo Valdez and Joe Angel Valdez.

Josie married Eldon J. Whitaker and he preceded her in death in December of 2002.

Josie sis survived by her son: Herman Valdez of Las Cruces, NM; her daughter: Ramona Matta of Roswell; her brothers: Leo Vladez and Delphie Valdez both of Farmington, NM; her sisters: Dolores Valdez of Farmington and Terry Archuleta of Roswell; her grandchildren: Gabrielita Valdez, Louis Matta, Leslie Matta, Veronica Matta, Marietta Valdez, John Valdez, Luis Valdez, Xaivier Valdez; and thirteen great grandchildren as well as a special friend: Pablo Valienca.

Josie was of the catholic faith and attended St. Peters Catholic Church.

Pallbearers will be John Valdez, Louis Matta, Xavier Valdez, Chelsea Wallace, Billy Aguilar and Ivan Valdez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Leslie Matta and Marietta Valdez.
