Memorial services for Josephine Jo Tyner who passed away May 30, 2013, will be held at 11:30, July 27, 2013 at 700 West Country Club Road Church of Christ following private graveside services at South Park Cemetery. George T. Elkins will be officiating.
Josephine Franklin Payne Tyner was born August 13, 1919, to parents Alvin Paul Payne and Henri Venetia Ball Payne in Artesia, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 49 years, Roy V. Tyner, whom she married November 26, 1937, in Carlsbad, NM. She had been a resident of Roswell since 1941. When her health began to fail in 2005 she moved to Dallas, TX, to live with her eldest daughter, Venetia Tyner Foster. Most recently she had been a resident at the Rockwell Nursing Care Center, in Rockwall, TX, until her death.
Mrs. Tyner was primarily a homemaker, but taught piano lessons in her home for several years. She sold Mary Kay Cosmetics for a time and sold real estate for approximately 25 years.
Mrs. Tyner was a faithful and active member of the West Country Club Road Church of Christ. She was also an active member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Social Order of Beauceant and served as musician for the two orders for nearly 60 years. Mrs. Tyner also held membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution for which she served as chairperson of the annual celebration of Constitution Week beginning in 1975.
Mrs. Tyner was a gifted musician and vocalist and willingly shared her talent with the entire community.
Survivors include her four daughters, Venetia Foster of Garland, TX, Melody Kincade and husband Charles of San Diego, CA, Shirley Box of Garland, TX, and Charlotte Beasley Hickman and husband Gary of Mariposa, CA eight grandchildren, Chia Grossmann and husband Mike, Kayla Foster Gilberti and husband Robby, Charles Tyner Kincade and wife Kathleen, Laura Beasley and husband Pieter Voorhees, Joy Beasley and Shayna, Leslie Box Ybarra and husband Rick, Lindsay Box Rogers and husband Brad, Jay Box six greatgrandchildren, and several special nephews and nieces from her
husbands side of the family along with many friends. She was a much loved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother and friend and will be greatly missed by everyone.
Memorials may be made at the New Mexico Christian Childrens Home in Portales, New Mexico.
