Jose Reyes Berrones
A rosary is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at St. Johns Catholic Church for Jose Reyes Berrones, 100, who passed away March 6, 2010 at his home. A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 12, 2010 at St. Johns Catholic Church. Burial will follow at South Park Cemetery.
Jose was born on April 23, 1909 in Dr. Arroyo, N.L., Mexico to Gerardo Perez Berrones and Camilla Casarez Berrones. His wife, Margarita M. Berrones preceded him in death on November 14, 2009. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on September 26, 2009. His parents preceded in him death as well as his brothers, Leopoldo Berrones of San Antonio, TX. and Porifirio Berrones of Roswell, NM., his sister, Angelita B. Berrones of Monterrey, Mexico and a very special niece, Maggie Villa of Yuma, AZ.
Jose is survived by his son, Ray Jaime Berrones and his wife Jenny Amicone of Roswell, NM. He is also survived by his daughters, Aida G. Rosales and her husband Enrique of Roswell, NM and Aracely B. Luna and her husband Jose of Roswell, NM.
His grandchildren: Ray Steven Berrones and wife Gina of Midland, TX., James Allen Berrones of Ventura, CA., Billy Ray Berrones and wife Marla of Roswell, NM., Theresa Inez Rosales of Lubbock, TX., Esther Laura Rosales of Lubbock, TX., Letizia Noel Mendoza and husband Milton of San Antonio, TX., and Mariza Rochelle Hardin and husband Brian of Springfield, VA.
His great grandchildren: Alexandria Nicole Berrones, Corbin Blaine Berrones, Zachary Thomas Alva, Chandler James Berrones, Case Berrones, Sabian Berrones, Jasmine Renae Alva, Shelby Rey Berrones, Marisa Sophia Berrones, Monet Berrones, Degan Blade Berrones, Alexa Rochelle Mendoza, Ethan Amicone, and Zachary Breeding. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and a very special friend, Richard Garcia.
On November 7, 1944, he came to the United States and became a citizen on September 8, 1966. He retired from the City of RoswellSanitation Department in 1975, but continued to work at the City Land Field and the Sanitation Office until the age of 87. Mr. Berrones celebrated a century of life last year with family and friends. He was an active member of St. Johns Catholic Church and a member of the Guadalaupana Society.
To his grandchildren he was known as Papa Joe for his playful and joyful personality. He loved children and always played and interacted with his grand kids. He loved to walk, dance, and work in his yard.
Jose was surrounded by the love and support of his family when he returned to his creator on March 6, 2010.
Pallbearers will be Steven Berrones, James Berrones, Billy Berrones, Enrique Rosales, Jose G. Luna, and Leroy Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers will be his great grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Frontier Medical Home Health, especially Carmen Anaya and Tara De L Cerda. His caretakers Lupe Lopez, Liliana Samuel, and Olivia Villalobos and his two devoted friends Cerilia Soliz and Cristina Lucero.
